The Oxnard Police Department Chaplain Program is established for the purposes of providing spiritual and emotional support to all employees of the Department, the families of employees, and members of the public as requested. The Chaplain Program is a non-denominational, ecumenical ministry provided by volunteer clergy without financial compensation. They serve as a resource for department personnel when dealing with the public in such incidents as accidental deaths, suicides, suicidal subjects, serious traffic collisions, drug and alcohol abuse, and other such situations that may arise. All of the Chaplains must pass a thorough background investigation including a polygraph examination and be ecclesiastically certified and/or endorsed, ordained, licensed, or commissioned by a recognized religious body. They must also have at least five years of ministry experience prior to appointment.
