In 2013, The Oxnard Police Department, in collaboration with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, created a Cold Case Unit to investigate and attempt to solve “cold cases.” The Cold Case Unit consists of two part-time Sheriff’s Investigators, one full-time district attorney investigator, two part-time district attorney investigators, one full-time forensic laboratory technician and one full-time Oxnard police investigator.
Current Cold Case Stats
Since the inception of the Cold Case Unit, sixteen (16) cold cases have been closed due to arrest or were exceptionally cleared. Four of the cases were cleared when the suspect or suspects were arrested for murder. One suspect in a sexual assault case was arrested for kidnapping, robbery and rape. The other eleven cases (11) were exceptionally cleared because the suspect was deceased or murdered, or the result of death was ruled natural causes.
